Title: Senior Human Resources Generalist

Reports To: Vice President of Operations, and indirectly to the Vice President of Finance

Location: Head Office, Mississauga, ON

Salary Range: Starting from $75,000 – $80,000

In this role, the Senior Human Resources Generalist is primarily responsible for running the daily functions of the HR department and providing general HR Support to AEL staff and management. The incumbent will take on a wide variety of tasks throughout the department, from talent acquisition to onboarding management to employee relations management. ensuring that all of our employment policies are in compliance with government regulations and conducting exit interviews when required.

The Senior Human Resources Generalist will assist the organization in achieving its goals by actively participating in all HR cycles and processes in a positive and proactive manner.

Roles and Responsibilities

The responsibilities and duties include; but are not limited to:

  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute HR programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, recognition, morale, training, and development
  • Advise employees and managers on the interpretation of organization policies and practices
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations as required
  • Prepare memoranda, correspondence, policies, reports, proposals, job descriptions, policies, and other employment documentation as required
  • Lead the full recruitment cycle including posting job vacancies, screening applicants, interviewing, negotiating job offers and onboarding for all departments
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counselling, career development, disciplinary actions etc.)
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
  • Stay abreast on compliance requirements and industry best practices; recommend changes or modifications to existing policies and programs to remain in compliance, and adopt best practices where feasible
  • Conduct exit interviews with resigning employees to gain a more in-depth understanding as to why they are resigning
  • Responsible for all payroll processing to ensure accurate processing of overtime hours, hourly employees’ wages, leave of absences, benefits, vacation payouts…etc.
  • Build trust and camaraderie between team members and promote conflict resolution,
  • Support managers in motivating team members in achieving goals
  • Foster learning, development, and operational expertise in staff by guiding and mentoring staff through coaching and performance management.
  • Responsible for Health & Safety Program Maintenance including but not limited to the following:– WSIB Claims Management including modified work program
    – Maintain and Review Health & Safety Policy and Manual annually
    – Train / Schedule training for all staff to adhere to OHSA standards
    – Support the JHSC in all their responsibilities
    – Involve in the monthly workplace inspection walks
    – Maintain Employee Health & Safety Board Information
    – Analyze WSIB and Health and Safety Trends
    – Along with JHSC Worker Rep make recommendations to the employer
  • Other responsibilities and duties as required

Requirements / Qualifications:

Academic Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Human Resources specialty preferred
  • Working towards or CHRP Designation achieved an asset

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of proven work experience as an HR Generalist / Business Partner

Specific Competencies:

  • Knowledge of and exposure to a range of human resources activities, including the following: recruitment, orientation, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee relations, and employee communications
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation in various different jurisdictions (specifically, AB, BC, ON, QC)
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse and fast-paced environment
  • Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion.
