The Canadian Seed Growers’ Association provides leadership as the only Canadian organization to monitor and certify pedigreed seed for all agricultural crops in Canada, except potatoes.


The Business Systems Developer, under the guidance of the Technology Manager, supports CSGA’s digital enablement and technology services in accordance with organizational priorities and values. The position supports the execution and operationalization of technology strategy, while supporting the ongoing development and maintenance of CSGA’s technology infrastructure, systems and processes. The position works closely with external third parties (programmers, hardware and desktop support specialists, VARs) to execute key responsibilities.


  • Manage the development, testing, integration, and maintenance of comprehensive document management solutions, focusing on enhancing functionality and user experience across various platforms including Laserfiche, Web front ends, PowerBI and assorted automation tools.
  • Drive the full lifecycle management of custom software solutions and integrations, particularly those involving document management systems, ensuring they meet organizational needs and compliance standards.
  • Act as the primary subject matter expert for the document management system, providing expert guidance, troubleshooting support, and big picture insights to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Innovate and improve the document management system by undertaking customization, workflow optimization, and maintenance efforts, ensuring these outcomes align with business objectives and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Design and maintain advanced SQL queries, data models, and databases in support of robust reporting and data visualization needs. This includes creating and optimizing workflows and dashboards that aid strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure thorough documentation processes for all developed systems and maintain high standards of data integrity and security in all programming and database activities.
Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Facilitate the development of integrated solutions that enhance document management capabilities, leveraging cross-functional team expertise and promoting best practices in document management and data handling.
  • Develop and nurture strong relationships within the team, encouraging open communication, mutual support, and continuous professional growth.
  • Champion ongoing learning and upskilling among team members, particularly in areas of SQL, ASP .NET, React, Vue, and other relevant web development frameworks, to maintain cutting-edge competency in software development.
  • Uphold CSGA’s core values and foster a culture of adaptability and solution-oriented thinking, ensuring a proactive approach to challenges and opportunities.
  • Utilize exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills to resolve complex problems efficiently, providing thoughtful and innovative solutions that advance organizational goals.
  • Exhibit meticulous attention to detail in all facets of work, from code development to process documentation, ensuring clarity and consistency across projects.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and responsibilities, demonstrating outstanding organizational and project management skills to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality outcomes.
Supporting the Technology Manager
  • Assist in special projects and initiatives as directed by the Technology Manager, applying expertise in data architecture, document management systems and web technologies to achieve project objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with the Technology Manager to gain exposure to and assist with various System Administrator duties, including system monitoring, troubleshooting, and configuration management, fostering a deeper understanding of IT infrastructure management within the organization.


  • Minimum of 3+ years of IT and technology experience with proven expertise in working with document management systems. ( Laserfiche experience a plus)
  • Coding and programming skills in ASP.NET, React, and other relevant web technologies.
  • Proven experience working with Microsoft stack (Office 365, Microsoft Dynamics, Azure)
  • Extensive experience with SQL and database management, including designing complex queries and optimizing database performance.
  • Strong understanding of integrating APIs, leveraging synchronization and automation tools, and a demonstrated ability to integrate diverse software and systems into cohesive, efficient operations.
  • A degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
