Job Summary

As an accountant at Caliber Sport, you will manage critical financial operations, including the administration of accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), payroll, GST/PST filing, and monthly bookkeeping and compliance reporting. This full-time role requires a meticulous professional who is well-versed in bookkeeping and accounting principles and can work independently. Key responsibilities also include monitoring and managing the company’s email account. This mailbox is the primary point of contact for our employees, customers, and vendors, and requires efficient and prompt responses to all queries.

 

About our Client

Caliber Sport is a dynamic sports contracting business that specializes in flooring, sports equipment, and more for athletic environments, serving the Canadian market since 2010. The company offers one of Canada’s largest selections of specialized high-performance maple, PVC, poured polyurethane, and rubber gym flooring, as well as athletic equipment systems for sports and multi-purpose use. They are currently seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Accountant to strengthen their financial health and contribute to their ongoing success.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Accounts Receivable (AR): Move AR invoice requests to the AR folder after invoice creation in Xero. Follow up on AR including collection of past due accounts.
  • Accounts Payable (AP): Review and publish all AP invoices from Hubdoc to Xero, check invoices for GST payments, process payments and send the weekly AP report to the Supervisor. 
  • Payroll Processing: Collect payroll-related emails from the Gmail payroll folder, process timesheets, and manage fixed monthly mileage expenses for certain employees.
  • GST/PST Filing: Ensure monthly GST filing and PST filings as per respective deadlines using Xero sales tax reporting. Communicate the updates to the Supervisor.
  • Monthly Compliance: Prepare and send the monthly compliance report to TD by the 25th of each month. Collaborate with the Supervisor  for inventory valuation before finalizing the report. Depending on the compliance status, coordinate with the Supervisor appropriately.
  • Bookkeeping and Account Reconciliations: Prepare monthly financial reports, maintain the general ledger, and ensure all financial records are accurate.
  • Email Management: Efficiently handle the accounting email account following specific procedures for different types of requests (insurance, AP, AR, etc.).
  • General Financial Administration: Implement systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information, and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in accounting or similar roles.
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting and bookkeeping principles.
  • Proficient in using accounting software (especially Xero) and MS Office Suite.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work.
  • Self-starter with an exceptional ability to identify gaps.
  • Strong team player who can work collaboratively.
