Position Summary
TryCycle is rapidly growing, and the company is looking for a Controller with natural leadership skills to undertake all aspects of the company’s financial performance and the development of accounting processes. As a Controller, you will engage with the Senior Leadership Team, including the CEO, COO and Head of Development. You will report directly to the CFO.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to help build and manage your team as the company scales.
What you’ll do at TryCycle
- Manage all the accounting operations and the financial performance of the company
- Develop the company budget, manage departmental budgets and report findings to key stakeholders
- Prepare detailed monthly financial reports for key stakeholders.
- Analyse data and provide recommendations and summary reports for stakeholders quarterly
- Create and execute new procedures for the finance department
- Take the lead on building new processes in the department
- Provide leadership + management to bookkeeper
- Do AR on outstanding bills and build an AR process
- Monitor Government loans (SOFFI) and prepare reports
- Implement efficient and proper accounting processes
Who we need

- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Must-haves
- 5+ years of working experience as a controller or progressive experience in accounting or finance with hands-on business experience
- University degree in finance, business or accounting. (advanced degree and professional accounting designation preferred)
- Background in overseeing audits performed by external audit firms
- Experience in financial analysis, including the ability to prepare reports
- Knowledge of budgeting and strategic planning
- Strong time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish good working relationships
- Effective written communications skills
- Experience with Microsoft office
Nice to haves
- Ability to get to Ottawa, if required, is an asset
- Professional accounting certification (CMA, CGA, or CA) + CPA designation is a bonus
- Quickbook experience is a plus
- Experience working for startups and/or in the private sector is ideal
