
HRCovered is partnering with Tarbell Management Group (TMG) as they enter an exciting new phase of growth with the launch of a tobacco manufacturing operation on Cornwall Island, Ontario, opening July 2026.
This new facility will strengthen TMG’s tobacco portfolio, optimize logistics, and better serve national distribution channels—while reinvesting in long-term, sustainable growth.
With over 70 years of history, TMG is expanding into Canada and investing in modernization, advanced systems, and operational excellence. This is a rare opportunity to join a high-impact build at the ground level and play a key role in shaping plant performance from day one.
To support this expansion, TMG is hiring a Plant Technician—a hands-on, senior-level role responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing high-speed manufacturing equipment.
This role is best suited for someone with 10+ years of hands-on technical and mechanical experience in tobacco, manufacturing, or industrial/electrical environments.
Training Location: Akwesasne, NY (26 Eagle Drive)
Work Location: Cornwall Plant (605 Island Road, Akwesasne, ON) upon opening
What the Role Offers
- Full-time, permanent position (reporting to the Preventative Maintenance Manufacturing Manager)
- Monday–Friday, 6:30am – 2:30pm
- $35,000–$40,000 USD (converted to CAD upon relocation) + full benefits

About the Role
This is a hands-on technical role focused on keeping production running efficiently, safely, and at high quality. You’ll be responsible for maintaining and optimizing machinery used in tobacco product manufacturing, while also contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.
You’ll work cross-functionally with operations, quality, and leadership teams to reduce downtime, improve processes, and support compliance with Canadian regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Machinery Maintenance & Operations (65%)
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal machine performance
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Monitor and analyze machine performance to identify improvement opportunities
- Operate machinery as needed to support production demands
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance
Continuous Improvement & Quality (20%)
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
- Recommend process improvements and equipment upgrades
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements
- Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and reduce rejects
- Build strong relationships with vendors and suppliers
Compliance & Safety (15%)
- Ensure all work aligns with applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
- Support and enforce a safe working environment through protocols and inspections
- Address potential hazards proactively
- Maintain accurate and confidential production documentation
Required Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of hands-on technical experience maintaining and troubleshooting industrial machinery (tobacco, manufacturing, electrical, or similar environments preferred)
- Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic aptitude
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex equipment issues
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs and production documentation
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical or vocational certification (mechanical, electrical, industrial maintenance)
- Experience with high-speed manufacturing equipment
- Familiarity with SAGE or similar production systems
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies
- Advanced troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Safety certifications
- Experience with capital projects or equipment upgrades
- Understanding of environmental and sustainability practices
- Experience working within Indigenous/Tribal communities
